Ceci's no-fail decorating tip!

This is one of my favorite mugs from Anthropologie. I love the colors and especially the Zinnia's! I found fabric online with a similar color scheme and made these pillows in a few hours this week.

See how you can take a favorite object and go from there? Decorating doesn't have to be hard, everyone has something they love, whether a pillow, a rug, a lampshade, whatever!

Favorite Project

I love how much depth my kitchen has since my 2 back cabinets were replaced with open shelves.

(excuse the crap on the counter!) I've had the cabinets in my garage for a while and recently I painted them and had them installed above my new desk...more on that later!

Of all the projects I've done in the last few years, this one I'm most proud of! Let's Connect!

Living Room Project

My husband Dave and I have been renovatin like crazy the last few weeks.  A huge part of the transforming of our little space was the new floor from Carpet Bonanza!  Check out how far laminate flooring has come, and how "easy" it is to install yourself (well, having a talented husband and knowledgeable friends certainly helps!)

Watch us install the floor...

A project I am really proud of is taking these bookshelves my Grandpa made for my Moms college dorm room, adding crown moulding and a new top, and see what happens next!  You can see I like color, right?  Didn't they turn out great!

Homemade Laundry Soap

Media_httpwwwcecilaba_dwxin
I have been getting so many comments lately about the recipe for homemade laundry soap…I tried to film myself making it yesterday, but my computer shut down during filming.  Here is the first few minutes of it…and to recap the recipe: Shred 1 bar Fels Naptha in food processor (if you’re lucky enough to have one) or shred it with a cheese grater, or use a KitchenAid attachement if you have one.  Blend 1/2 cup Borax and 1/2 cup Arm and Hammer Washing soda.  I use a blender to mix all 3 ingredients to make a smooth mix.  Then I store it in a glass jar.  I have a HE washing machine and use about 1 TBSP of the mixture per load.  If you have a Top Loader, use a few Tablespoons. It should cost you about 3 cents a load.

Hanging the TV

This is my new favorite project that I just had to show off.  I wanted to hang our flat screen TV on the wall for a while now, but as you can see, the TV is all of 19 inches!  It's weird, I wanted to give it more "weight" in the room, but also wanted it to "go away" a bit too, so it didn't look like the tv is the focus of our living room.  I had an idea to frame it, but wasn't quite sure how to pull it off.  I had the guys at DeLeeuw Lumber make me a frame out of moulding.  They did an awesome job, but it was still too boring for me.  So I took the moulding-frame to Hobby Lobby and had them add another frame on top of that.  I had mistakenly cut too big of a hole for the mounting hardware, and ended up adding left over bead board from the locker project.  The thing with using your creativity is, if it doesn't look quite right, or feel quite right...keep going!  I ended up with a frame that was way more detailed than I originally planned, and I love it![gallery link="file"]

stop watching HGTV?

Media_httpwwwcecilaba_tbvga
I have another hairbrained idea. I want to create a funky (lime green with brown glaze wash) frame for my flat screen tv. (keep in mind that the flat-screen in question is all of 19") Yesterday I took my piece of MDF to a lumber yard for a quote on how much it would be to have them use crown moulding to frame out the MDF. The guy literally rolled his eyes at me and told me to stop watching HGTV and getting crazy ideas. I'm sorry, it's housewifes with crazy ideas that is keeping you guys in business! Lets Connect! p.s. Mandy left early today, so no talky blog this week. I'm hoping to return to them next week. We are still on a semi-summer break. In the next few weeks though, I will be launching a whole new website that will be very cool. Also, the reason there haven't been any pictures is we still haven't fixed the usb port issue with my camera. I may need to bite the bullet and get a new one. Does anyone have a favorite point-and-shoot?
